Where I live we always got a better deal by ignoring the places that the bros had done a deal with. Some thought this was disloyal to the “arrangement”, but shouldn’t the rooming department have been getting us the best deal? Unless somebody was profiting from it.? Shock, horror! Surely not?

Stress of Going to a Summer Convention
by LostintheFog1999 inspotted this picture on a friend's page, he was highlighting the mental health issue.
however,we thought the magazine on stress was deliberately placed in the summer months because for any jw going to a convention, paying high season hotel rates for themselves or their whole family to stay near the convention centre, fighting coworkers and managers to get the time off work, travelling expenses, buying their own meals for the family, buying new shiny suits and dresses to impress (particularly if you have teenage girls who are looking for their prince), and more.... by the time they come home again and straight away back to work, their nerves will be so frazzled that their stress levels will have sky rocketed!.
as brother elder says to them, "don't worry.

Fisherman, don’t assume that you know everything. I did give family responsibilities as a reason and I was believed. I was still going to meetings etc. I was not pressurized to step down. Let people think what they like. That’s up to them. You have a very negative attitude. Lighten up a bit! How do you know what people think of me? You know nothing about me, my life, the congregations I have been in, and yet you assume you know how people in my life and area feel about me. Don’t make generalizations. I work in education and I always tell my students not to make sweeping statements as they are often incorrect.

Fisherman.
You said. “Obviously, no one stops serving unless they no longer qualify. Everybody knows this unless they are “new in the truth”.
That does not apply in every instance. I served as an elder for many years and took a breather and stopped serving for a few years about twenty years ago. I had my own reasons for this, nothing to do with no longer being qualified. I served as an elder again later until finally I found out about all the money-grabbing the GB were putting in place (I was doing congregation accounts at the time), and all the other dodgy stuff like the generation teaching and other doctrinal gymnastics. I resigned again despite the desperate attempts by the coordinator of the body of elders to get me to change my mind and stay on. They made the normal announcement and maybe some were wondering why and suspected I had been up to no good. If anyone asked I quoted family responsibilities, which was actually part of the reason for my departure. Most accepted this and didn’t treat me as if I had done anything wrong. Even now I get asked to do stuff on the meeting and so on, in the hopes of getting me to serve again. So you can stop serving without everyone thinking you no longer qualify.

Thank you everyone for the encouraging replies. Some of you may have thought that when I said I am now a non entity that I meant that was how I feel about myself. I meant that is how I am probably viewed in JW circles. Personally I think I have a good take on self worth. I work in education and see results for my efforts in those I teach. This reinforces my self confidence and tells me that I don’t need a controlling organization to tell me how I should feel about myself.

QI probably differ from you in the feelings I have towards the cult and those still in. I wish JWdom were what I thought it was in the 1980's. I miss the feelings of security, the hope for the future, etc. However, I detest the org now, and I have little sympathy for any who support it.
Actually, Magnum, I kind of have the same feelings as you on this. I also miss the security, the hope for the future and also the apparent sense of having a purpose in the field ministry and at the meetings. I loved giving talks, it was my favorite thing. But like you, I have less and less respect for the org these days, especially with all the “suggested contributions” aka tithing that goes on, with the bros and sis either unaware that this what it really is, or they don’t mind as long as they can stay in the bubble.

I am now in my early 60’s. I was baptized in 1980. I served as a ministerial servant and an elder. I gave my all for many years but about eight years ago I started to question many things. The generation teaching, amongst many others. Now, I find that my faith has been shattered by all the CSA revelations, the Kingdom Hall sell-offs, and the money-grab of congregation funds. It is with profound sadness that I look back on my life as a Witness and now I am basically a non-entity ,as I resigned as an elder, and the main reason why elders contact me is to get me to “do things again”’, such as meeting parts. These brothers mean well, but the bottom line is always the same, “what can you do for the congregation? “ So depressing and discouraging! I don’t let this get to me and I been able to rise above this and protect myself and my loved ones from the well-meaning but misguided attempts to “reactivate” us back onto the treadmill.

Question about Congregation accounts in ECUADOR 🇪🇨
by suavojr inwondering if anyone here knows why local congregations in ecuador do not have accounts under the congregation’s name.
i just found out they use the personal information of one of the elder’s 😳 wtf .
what’s the legal reason for this?
-
New day
Possibly the situation in Ecuador is similar to the following? In a congregation in a European country l cannot name as it might give me away, I was once upon a time the accounts guy. The bank account was in the name of two elders. I was one of them. The reason for this was that at that time the congregation was not quite underground, but not really acceptable to the powers that be. To get around any possible hassle from the authorities regarding trying to open an account for a congregation of JWs, the two bros had a joint account and the money was deposited into that and sent on to another account in the branch office’s name, I think under another fictitious cover, cannot remember exactly. Wide open to one of us doing a runner with the cash when it built up a bit, if we were so inclined. We never did, of course. I was a true blue Witness then. All has changed since then. I also presided over the change to the congregation or members thereof not really having their own account but sending the money into an account in the name of the branch or some other offshoot of the GB. One of the many reasons why yours truly is here now!

Can a person order a free bible through the JWs?
by jwundubbed ini was researching the easiest bible to read (which the jw bible is not) and the best way to buy one online at low cost and it got me thinking.
the jw.org is doing videos and has a website.
have they joined the order-online phenomenon that is going on in the world today?

Hi. I don’t know about paper copies but you could download the JW library app on google play store or the apple store and there are a number of bibles available to download on the JW app.

I agree with hoser that the message is ‘you are not good enough, but you are, kinda.’ You can’t accommodate these contradictory messages without mental meltdown. Heard is getting right In there with questions he has no right to ask. Whatever happened to making your own decisions on these things without big brother sticking his nose in?
